There are quite a few benefits to wireframing through sketches. For one, it's a very quick process. All that there is to it is a piece of paper and a utensil to write with.
Additionally, it's rather flexible.
Switching from high to low-level product concepts or details is very easy in sketch wireframing, and can even be included on the same page.
Furthermore, the inherent
simplicity of sketch wireframing allows for minimal distractions. You won't have to worry about being hung up on its visual design due
to the very few options for styling via sketch wireframing. Product structure, content, information hierarchy, functionality, and behavior will be
the central focus in sketch wireframing.
Unfortunately, the advantages of sketch wireframing come with a slew of disadvantages. Firstly, it's far more difficult to duplicate work on paper in contrast to wireframe
software. It doesn't allow for master templates or
elements to re-use or apply changes across different views. This also means that sketches can't be exported to other
applications to resume work. Although sketch wireframing's low-fidelity nature makes the process simple
and easy to get into, this also makes it unreliable for media
and font formatting. Sketches can't be linked together, making the process of sketch wireframing non-interactive as a whole. Furthermore, this can result in sketch
elements suffering from inconsistencies or uneven proportions.
When it comes to the wireframing that I feel works best for my semester project, I personally believe that the best course of action would be to go with presentation software.
I say this because the primary goal of my semester
project is to present my work to people. I want to showcase to people how much can be done with the power of
the artistic medium if you truly put time and effort into learning it. I want to demonstrate that even the most novice of artists such as myself
can create a product that the audience will be captivated by. I have plenty of experience with presentation software such as PowerPoint, Google Slides, and plenty others,
so it's a
method that'll very much be ideal for my project.
